Manuel Fontes Jr.

Manuel Fontes Jr., 74, of Papaikou died Aug. 2, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1941, in Olaa, he was a retired maintenance worker for the Naniloa Resort Hotel in Hilo.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by companion, Rose Toribio of Papaikou; son, James (Helene) Fontes of Fairfield, Calif.; daughter, Jill (James) Werner of Waimea; sisters, Irene Oliveira of Mountain View, Millie Rapoza of Wahiawa, Oahu, Ethel Fontes of California, Gina Ah Yo of Hilo; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Juel Roark

Juel Marie Roark, 83, of Kailua-Kona died July 28, 2015, at her residence. Born Oct. 2, 1931, in Atascadero, Calif., she was a retired customer service representative for Southern California Gas Co., member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and a Calabash Cousin.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughter, Linda Pippin of Santa Cruz, Calif.; son, Mark (Deby) Pippin of Encinitas, Calif.; sister, Peggy Dodge of Mountain Home, Calif.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren.
